Procedures and/or documents that are necessary to be able to work in this country:
Dental Hygienists educated outside Denmark (including dental hygienists from the Nordic countries and the EU/EEC countries) must hold Danish authorization to be able to use the title Dental Hygienists in Denmark and the Faroe Islands. As a result of international agreements, different rules govern the recognition of qualifications obtained abroad, depending on the applicant’s nationality, and where the education took place. For this reason, applicants are divided into two groups. Nordic educated dental hygienists or Dental Hygienists educated outside the Nordic countries.

There is a fee of DKK 287 for registration to be paid when the Board has evaluated your application.

EU residents do not need a work permit. Other applicants do.

Information on the local working environment:
The average working weeks is 37 hours. Most hygienists work in private practice.

Standard tasks that a hygienist is allowed to undertake in the country:
  • Patient screening procedures ( infection control procedures)
  • Coronal polishing
  • Injections (pain management)
  • Dental radiographs X-ray
  • Remove calcus and plaque
  • Apply preventive material ( sealants and flourides)
  • Teaching appropriate oral hygiene ( health education and preventive counseling)
  • Counseling patients ( nutrition)
  • Orthodontics
  • Paradentosis
