Hygienists work to the prescriptions (treatment plan) of a dentist. Hygienists work without supervision except when administrating inferior block analgesia.

Hygienists can work in all sectors. Most hygienists work in both national health services and private dental practices.

- Removal of supra and sub gingival deposits
- Application of fluorides and fissure sealants
- Administration of local infiltration analgesia and ID block analgesia
- Domiciliary visits
- Oral health education

- place temporary dressings
- re-place dislodged crowns with a temporary cement
